Jiangdong district is the core area of Ningbo, which is rich in culture and prosperous in port. It covers an area of 37.7 sq. km., and has a residential population of about 360,000. Under its jurisdiction are 8 sub-districts and 74 communities. Jiangdong district features fine location, convenient transportation. With the oriental Beilun Port at its east and the flourishing Sanjiangkou at its west, Jiangdong district is suited at the geometric center of the 6 urban districts of Ningbo, at the front edge of the eastward development, and is the pivot area connecting the airport with the seaport. The Hangzhou Bay bridge helps shorten the distance between Jiangdong and Shanghai to two hours. Zhoushan Bridge enables Jiangdong as the tourist center of eastern Zhejiang.

In recent years, Jiangdong has firmly seized the historic opportunity brought by Ningbo’s eastward expansion plan and middle uplifting plan, promoted the city development. The direction of city development has been changed from city construction to function upgrade and the common development of industry and city. By doing so, the advantages of our planning, construction, management and location have become more prominent. In particular, the construction of the 16square meter Eastern New City leads Jiangdong into the new development era of One Ningbo, Two Cores. With the sound advantage of being the core area of Sanjiangkou and central part of Eastern New City, the resources will be more concentrated and the city function will be further promoted. In recent years, Jiangdong has timely made the strategy of “developing the district through tertiary industry. It requires to bring up urban industry system with tertiary industry as the lead, rising commerce and urban industry as the wings, building industry as the mainstay open economy as the support. The modern tertiary industry represented by exhibition, logistics, financial service, creation, information and intermediary has been developing very quickly. In 2009, the added value of the tertiary industry accounts for over 80% of the total output value and the modern tertiary industry accounts for 43% of the service industry. The position of tertiary industry in the economy has become more and more apparent.

Being Ningbo’s center of international trade and exhibition, shipping, financial service, Jiangdong boasts 70% of Ningbo’s exhibition enterprises. It features 255 financial institutions including their sub branches, such as HSBC, China Import and Export Bank, China Commercial Bank, Ever bright Bank, Kunlun Trust and so on. Industries like science technology and information, intermediary service and culture creation have been on quick expansion. A large number of functional buildings represented by Hefeng Creation Plaza which covers an area of 340000 square meters with total investment volume of 3400000000 will be put into use

Building economy constitutes an important part of Jiangdong’s modern tertiary industry. Currently, there are 116 business buildings in Jiangdong with a total area of 2000000 square meters. 6500 companies are located in these buildings. The number of buildings and their economic contribution have made strategic break. In 2009, enterprises in those buildings contributed nearly 200million tax revenue. 25 buildings has contributed over 10million tax revenue, two of which has reached 100million. Jiangdong is gradually developing into an economically prosperous district featuring tertiary industry with numerous business opportunities.

Jiangdong district strives to improve government efficiency and investment environment through the construction of Jiangdong Government Affairs Transaction Center, Jiangdong Foreign Investment service center, and Jiangdong Foreign-Invested Enterprises Association, aiming to create the best investment destination in Ningbo. So far, 22 of the World Fortune 500 have established their branches in Jiangdong, such as NYK, Porsche, Pricewaterhorse Coppers, Maersk, APL, Carrefour, Auchan, E-mart.
